Handmade: Forget Selling Just Enjoy

Easter dress by VineyardCreations
I just broke through a long dry spell of creating. I realized it is so easy to get into the business of selling, promoting, talking about handmade and venues and on and on, we can forget how it all started. We liked making thing ourselves.

Whatever it is you make, you started because you liked creating something for yourself. Whether you knit, crochet, sew, sculpt, make jewelry or any of the many others crafts out there, I bet you didn't start in the beginning because you planned to sell it. Maybe like me you realized even a little kid, you realized you like doing something creative and maybe you have dabbled in many crafts or maybe just focused on one.

Maybe like me, you find it has become more about the business end and not the creating. Sometimes you need to take a step back from what will sell and do something you really love. This may can be anything. Indulge in really draws you to creating. It can be making something personal, may be a craft you enjoy but have put aside because it is not something that sells or a craft you have wanted to try. The whole point is to take some time out, forget about whether it will sell and just have fun. It gets the creative juices flowing, it's enjoyable and it will refresh you.

Get back to where you started, whether is was finger painting your little sister,  having your grandmother teach you how to knit or discovering that cool technique, just get in touch why you loved to create.

I couldn't agree more and it's exactly what I am doing this year. I have been doing Craft Fairs for three years and selling online for four and this year, I am learning to relax more and enjoy my craft more. Don't get me wrong, I have always enjoyed the making of my items but sometimes I got bogged down with..."that's lovely would you knit one for me?" And then even though I didn't really fancy making the same again (and again sometimes) I did. But not this year. This year I am exploring crochet more and knitting just what I fancy knitting.
I wrote about it a little on my blog in January if anyone is interested?
